[No.13] The Code of the World

-reflection of Simulations p103-115

The work of this chapter is a further explanation and origin retrieve of the beginning of simulation fundamental code of the world. In the last 2 chapters when Baudrillard was discussing about the industrialization development,  I already started thinking about the concept of computer which everything is built on the simple binary code 0&1. As Baudrillard said the computer code is a prototype of simulation of the "reality", it is able to be invented because of the model of the reality. However, at some point, it could also be considered as existing in its own way in stead of being a countrified of anything in this world. The link of the real society and the electronic information era push people to unconsciously more and more willing to live in the simulation world.

"the genetic material of all organisms known on earth is in great measure made up of thee nucleonic acid NDA and RNA that contain in their information structure, transmitted by reproduction from one generation to another and furthermore gifted with the capacity of self-reproduction and imitation" (106).

The genetic code is universal, the binary system of computer code is also universal, so they are the same. "Instead of a right to a prophecy, we have the right of registration"(111). I put a question mark on this sentence when I was reading this chapter for the first time, after viewing the powerpoint and thinking deeper about it, I suddenly form a understanding of this quote. We are putting everything together by using what we already have, everything is construct and reconstruct, semblance and resemblance. It is interesting how everything we read and everything Johnie provides in the powerpoint seems have no connection at all at first, but all falling together in the end in a surprising way. Maybe this is the amaze of art that we need to develop. In this week's powerpoint, the concept of "Ducks & Sheds" from Learning from Las Vegas make no sense at first, but later on, the significant of sign and human's adaptation capacity is all shown in the example. Both of the duck and shed are representation of buildings, but in different forms. The duck shape building and one-floor shed shape building can both be made in the same material(stucco?), but give the passer-by totally different meaning but actually still using the same way of thinking. When and how did we agree with the universal symbol of duck or swan as "2" , or logo of McDonald as a simple yellow "M"? The learning system of human seems like being programed to have the command sense, but what is command sense any way? who to define what is the range of command sense and how can everyone agree with the same thing since everyone is living in such a different environment in the world?

Now the way I write about the book feel more and more like Baudrillard, I am getting crazy but its ok. I am excited to write about Paul McCarthy for next week!!
