“We look at the present through a rear-view mirror. We march backwards into the future” (75, McLuhan).

There is always a new way to look at things. From the “time” chapter of The Medium is The Massage, McLuhan says we see the future from behind, and walk back into it. I try to talk back to his words by making a video which used a simple but powerful post-effect, which is reverse the clips. The pure attraction of the visual perception is created by simply reversing the video clip, which makes me think about the power of video: we recorded a short clip and played it backwards, pretending we were changing the rule of time lapses. The reversed video becomes the new future for the people at the moment inside the clip, the short time is magical but subjectively real for the audience to experience.

Moreover, the conversation between the audio and image created another level of meaning after I put them together. I placed the soundtrack into the film after I finished making the image part. Unexpectedly, when I watched the final film, the image was in sync with the audio, and created new meaning to the concept.

One clip I take, unlimited meaning will come with it. Once I read the clip harder, one new concept can come up. There is always a new way to look at things, we just need to find it and connect it with each other.
